Lunds & Byerlys is an American chain of upscale retail grocery stores located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area in the state of Minnesota. Lunds & Byerlys offers groceries, pantry items, baked goods, wine & spirits, deli, health & beauty products, and many more items. In addition, their services include full-service catering, health & wellness services, online grocery ordering for delivery or pickup, curbside dinner pickup, and more.
Starting out in the grocery store business in the early 1920s, Russell T. Lund had an entrepreneurial spirit and quickly became a full partner in Hoves’ grocery store in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His own grocery store followed not long after, in the early 1940s, which was one of the first self-service grocery stores in the area at the time. Renamed ‘Lunds’ in 1964, the grocery store turned into a chain and even today the family company continues to grow under the direction of Russell T. Lund III. By 1997, Lunds acquired a local competitor, Byerly’s, and the two brand names were eventually merged into ‘Lunds & Byerlys’ in 2015.
Savings and deals change at Lunds & Byerlys on a weekly basis with ads and promotions. Plus, shoppers can sign up for members-only shopping tools, exclusive deals, and discounts by joining the Lunds & Byerlys Extras App on their smartphones. In addition, customers can sign up to receive special email deals delivered to their inboxes by registering their email addresses.
Under construction in 2021, Lunds & Byerlys is set to open a new, full-service grocery store in the Highland Bridge development of the upscale neighborhood of Highland Park in St. Paul. The new store is planned to be 51,000 square feet with specialty products, gourmet foods, prepared meals, and two levels of covered parking. Lunds & Byerlys will act as an anchor store for other retail shops in the mixed-use building that includes more than 200 apartments.
In keeping up with current trends, Lunds & Byerlys got creative with a program called ‘Eat Street”. This works as a popup event that provides customers opportunities to enjoy the on-the-go nature of local food truck food each day from 11 am to 7 pm in the store’s deli department.
