Dot’s Market is a small chain of two retail grocery stores that operate in the Dayton, Ohio area of the United States. In addition to offering pantry items, produce, dairy and other necessities, Dot’s particular feature is their butcher department that includes meat bundles and custom-cut meats, whichever way the shopper prefers. In addition, Dot’s works to stock various locally sourced items that help keep the sense of local community and neighborhood feel. Services include home delivery, deli, restaurant, carpet cleaner rental, money services, propane exchange, and more.
In 1951, Dot’s Market was founded by Robert Bernhard, Sr. as a local, neighborhood grocery store. From 1974, the stores became Imperial Foodtown and were sold outside the family. In 1984, the family regained two stores and returned them to the Dot’s Market branding. These stores were owned by Robert Bernhard Jr. until 2019 when the stores were purchased by a long-time employee.
In addition to regular weekly ad promotions that include meats, produce, grocery items and more, Dot’s Market customers can also sign up for the store Rewards Card that allows customers to earn points on grocery purchases. Then, special featured products throughout the month can be redeemed for free with accumulated points.
Not so long ago, an interesting story about Dot’s hit the news, naming its new owner as an employee who started out as a bagger at 16 years old and moved his way up throughout all the different departments. At 29 years old, Nick Moshos is fairly young to be a grocery store owner but it’s what he decided to do after graduating from college, and he’s thrilled for the opportunity.
The Kettering, Ohio location of Dot’s Market has been running a restaurant since 1964. The Bull Pen Diner offers a classic feel, reminiscent of the mid-20th century American diner with barstools and a walnut counter.
