Hy-Vee is an employee owned grocery store chain located in the Midwestern United States. Hy-Vee connects with local farmers and growers to source food locally to bring the best local products available to consumers. As with most grocery stores, Hy-Vee has a huge selection of food with an emphasis of local providers and seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Hy-Vee was founded in the 1930s in Beaconsfield, Iowa with a goal of providing good merchandise, appreciative service, and low prices. By 1938, the two founding partners and 14 others, incorporated 15 stores in Iowa and Missouri. Each store operates independently with managers, now called directors, setting prices and ordering items as they choose based on location. This is one of the first corporations to be set up in this way and the tradition continues even in current times.
