Hays Supermarkets is a small chain of full self-service grocery stores based in Blytheville, Arkansas. Their grocery departments include meat, produce, dairy, and deli, and they have cafés. Hays is a proud member of the local community that displays banners that read "HAYS, The Friendliest Stores in Town."
Hays Supermarkets is a family-owned and operated company that started as a general mercantile store in 1935 in Blytheville, Arkansas. Between 1977 and 1987, the company began to expand, purchasing three supermarkets in neighboring Arkansas towns. In 1995, the two grandsons of the company's founders took over the ownership, and in May of 2001, they bought five grocery stores in several more towns, remodeled them, and opened them back up as Hays Supermarkets. Today, this family business runs 12 supermarkets in eastern and northeastern Arkansas, and each store has between 40 and 60 employees.
Hays is committed to serving the community's needs through fundraising, sponsorship, and cooperation with charitable organizations. The supermarket chain allows groups like the Girl Scouts to use their storefront space for fundraising efforts. In Paragould, Arkansas, where Hays has two stores, the Paragould Regional Chamber of Commerce has recognized Hays for their 15-plus year commitment to the community and the Chamber.
