Fareway Stores, Inc. is a Midwest grocery store chain. Based in Boone, Iowa, Fareway operates 124 grocery stores in six states in the U.S. These include Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, and South Dakota. Fareway is one of the top ten employers in Iowa with over 12,000 employees.
The first Fareway Store opened in May of 1938 and was considered revolutionary for allowing shoppers to pick out their own groceries. Founder Paul S. Beckwith was formerly a meat supervisor at an large chain grocery store, but did not like how employees and customers were being treated so he brought a more positive vision to light through Fareway Store after sharing his vision with others with great success.
Beyond excellent customer service, Fareway employees are willing to help through volunteer work, supporting the community, and donating to worthy causes. In the 80 year history of Fareway stores, they have donated or supported food security and rescue, first responders, service members, and many youth organizations.
