The original meaning of Easter.

A popular spring holiday in the United States, Easter is celebrated by a great many people. This holiday is observed not only in the US but also around the world. It is particularly important to the people of the Christian faith who celebrate it as the day Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was resurrected three days after he was crucified. Along with Christmas, Easter is a pinnacle holiday for those of the Christian faith and, even though both holidays have somewhat departed from their original roots, they are still important holidays in the culture.

When is Easter?

The date of Easter changes each year based on the cycles of the moon, but it always falls on a Sunday. The holiday always comes in the springtime and can occur anywhere between March 22 and April 25. Easter in 2022 falls on April 17, which is rather late in the season.

How is Easter celebrated?

Easter is celebrated in a variety of ways, one of the most traditional is that people of the Christian faith go to church. Church attendees often get dressed up in new springtime outfits and some women or girls even enjoy wearing a new hat or bonnet for the occasion. In addition, Easter comes along with a variety of symbols such as bunnies, chicks, decorated eggs, and baskets filled with goodies.

Just like with many holidays, families often get together to enjoy a meal and some fun, including decorating hard-boiled eggs. Some families participate in an Easter Egg Hunt where decorated eggs are hidden, presumably by the Easter Bunny, then children look for them and collect them. One other tradition that takes place is the Easter Egg Roll, which is a popular event that the White House in Washington, DC hosts.

Why is Easter on different dates?

Easter does not fall on the same date every year. It changes dates because it is set to coincide with the first full moon after the vernal equinox, which is called the Paschal Full Moon. Early Christians wanted the Easter holiday to be at a similar time as Passover, which is a significant holiday on the Jewish calendar. The connection is important because Jesus was of Jewish descent and his death and resurrection occurred after the Passover holiday was celebrated early in the 1st century.

What to buy for Easter?

Easter is a fun holiday that can be celebrated by giving gifts to family members and friends. For children, gifts like stuffed animals, chocolate candies, jellybeans, and other treats are much appreciated. Adults might be more interested in receiving gifts such as a spring wreath to put on the door, fresh flowers to decorate the dinner table, or perhaps a tray full of beautifully decorated Easter cookies in the shapes of bunnies, ducks, and eggs.

Other Easter gift ideas might include something more personal, like jewelry, watches, a ceramic decorative egg, or even a men’s necktie that sports bunnies or chicks!

Which stores have Easter sales?

Although Easter is a religious holiday, many stores and shops will hold sales and discounts in honor of the holiday. This is particularly true for clothing stores that carry dresses and suits for children and adults, in addition to home décor, toys, and other gifts. Many department stores, like Kohl’s, Walmart, Macy’s, and Target hold sales for the holiday. Clothing stores like Forever 21 and The Children’s Place may also hold sales for the holiday.

Home decor stores that often hold Easter sales may include Pottery Barn, World Market, Bed Bath & Beyond, Hobby Lobby, and Kirkland’s. Those purchasing gifts for Easter may also want to consider gift baskets from Easter sales at Godiva, See’s Candies, Edible Arrangements, and 1-800-Flowers. Those thinking of purchasing a personalized gift at an Easter sale may want to look at Things Remembered or the Personalization Mall.
