JayC Food Stores is an American supermarket chain based in Petersburg, Indiana. Their stores are full-service supermarkets with seafood, frozen, deli, pantry, produce, meat departments, and pharmacies. As of May 2021, the chain operates 64 stores in Southern Indiana.
in 1863 Swiss immigrant John C. Group founded the company with his wife Elizabeth, opening their first store on South Chestnut Street in Seymour, Indiana. They were successful, passing the business down to their children, who ran it as a grocery until the 1920s when they started focusing on retail and adopted the name JayC Food Store in 1927. By 1997 JayC had more than 2,700 employees, making it the largest private retail employer in Indiana. In January 1999, Kroger acquired the John C. Group Co., which still operates 22 JayC locations. JayC has grown as a division Under Kroger's ownership, and today the store has annual sales of between $20 and $50 million.
JayC's weekly ad, viewable on their website, has deals on grocery items in all departments, including meat, poultry, and seafood. Also on their website is an interactive coupons page, where you can sign in, digitally clip coupons and save them to your store card to redeem in-store. In addition to saving on grocery items, you can clip special coupons, such as 4x extra fuel points on gift cards.
In July 2020, per CDC guidelines, JayC Food Stores started requiring customers to wear a facial covering in all their stores to reduce the spread of COVID-19. They lifted the requirement for customers in 2021 but kept it in place for employees.
As a gesture of their regard for the health and safety of their communities, in March 2020, JayC Food Stores announced their Louisville, Kentucky, and Southern Indiana stores would open an hour early. During that first hour of operation, only senior citizens would be allowed to shop.
