Don Quijote Hawaii is a grocery and convenience store that provides one-stop shopping for their valued local customers in Honolulu, Pearl City and Waipahu, Hawaii. Don Quijote shops make themselves distinct by using amusement as a pillar for their store. Named after the character in the novel by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quijote’s characteristics and style correspond with the store's identity of defying regularity and bravely pushing forward past the restrictions of the conventional retail industry. The parent company entered the market in Hawaii in 2006 and now has three Don Quijote stores in its chain, as well as two more stores on Oahu that are branded differently as Marukai.
Each week, Don Quijote offers a range of sales and specially priced items for customers to be able to save big on all of their purchases. Examples of sales might include 6-packs of Coca-Cola and Sprite 2 for $4, 16 ounces of bacon for $6.49, or a family pack of boneless pork chops for $3.29 per pound. Late in 2021, Don Quijote Group announced that it would be opening a new Don Quijote branded store in Kapolei, its first on the island of Oahu. The company owns two other stores on that island, marketed as Marukai, but this will be the first Don Quijote branded convenience shop.
Don Quijote’s shop representative, Donki Okazuya, appeared on the Honolulu KHON2 segment “Hawaii’s Kitchen”. He made sushi and pork eggplant with miso sauce and shared other types of recipes as well. Don Quijote is a sister to the store Don Don Donki, which is a Japanese brand specialty store operating in Hong Kong and Singapore that promotes Japanese food and culture.
