Gerrity’s Supermarkets is a small, American chain of retail grocery stores located in the eastern Pennsylvania area. The store sells a variety of products to meet the needs of the family, including meats, fresh produce, dairy, pantry items, baked goods health & beauty and more. In addition, Gerrity’s sells freshly made foods in their deli area that can be taken home and served to the family as a hot meal—each day offers a different daily special.
William Gerrity began by opening a small meat shop in 1895 in West Scranton, named Gerrity’s Market. The business expanded to more stores and then was passed on to William’s three sons in the late 1940s. The first Gerrity’s Supermarket came in 1980 and continues to be the flagship store of the business. Eight other locations also function throughout the region.
Gerrity’s runs weekly ads that offer different discounts and sales each Sunday through Saturday. Customers who join Gerrity’s Shursave Gold Club can access savings, discounts and coupons with a card or through a mobile phone number. Gerrity’s also rewards its pharmacy customers by offering $10 in grocery items with each purchase of 13 prescriptions.
The autumn of 2021 brings another proud addition to the Gerrity’s family when it acquires a grocery store in Lehigh Valley from another family-owned chain. This will become Gerrity’s tenth store and the first in this local area.
The president and CEO of Gerrity’s is a woman named Joyce Fasula. She oversees the company the way a mother would oversee her family, and with that she had earned the delightful nickname of “Mom”. In fact, the company even uses as their catchphrase, “Gerrity’s: Where Mom’s In Charge”.
