Headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois, CB2 is a spinoff brand of Crate & Barrel Holdings, Inc. CB2’s line of home decor, housewares, furniture, and interior design services generally appeals to a younger, hipper crowd than their parent company’s offerings. But its unique blend of trendy yet timeless design -- at affordable prices -- has broad appeal, too. As of January 2021, CB2 has 20 store locations across the U.S. and two in Canada, and is a major contributor to Crate & Barrel’s more than $2 billion annual revenue stream.
Crate & Barrel Inc., launched CB2 in Chicago’s Northside in 2000. The original intent of the new CB2 store concept was to appeal to younger people looking to decorate their first apartments. But the smaller, home decor items the stores featured didn’t generate enough sales, so the brand broadened its appeal, adding more furniture items designed for small apartments and lofts. Today, CB2 has 23 locations in the U.S. and Canada.
CB2 ships to all 50 states and U.S. territories, and offers standard, premium, and express delivery rates. Customers can earn cash back and rewards by qualifying for the Crate & Barrel Mastercard. The perks include $20 in rewards for every $200 spent at CB2 and Crate & Barrel, 2% cash back on grocery store purchases, and 1% cash back on every other purchase everywhere else. CB2 also regularly offers sales, clearances, and free shipping on select items.
In June 2021 Crate & Barrel and CB2 announced the brands would launch professional level design tools and services for customers for free. The service features the assignment of a Personal Designer who meets customers in-store, at home, or virtually based on their preference. Also, in October 2020, two CB2 designers launched original collections in two categories. Interior designer Leanne Ford unveiled an exclusive tabletop collection with Crate & Barrel, and jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher unveiled a holiday capsule collection for CB2.
CB2 partners with organizations on a national level to take on three causes -- hunger, diversity, and creativity through the arts. They aim to help end hunger through their partnerships with the Share our Strength’s No Kid Hungry, promote LGBT diversity and end discrimination through partnering with GLSEN and Characters Unite, and empower artists of all abilities through partnering with Creativity Explored.
