Save a Lot - Store

Save-A-Lot is an American discount supermarket chain store with locations in 36 states with 1300 stores total in the United States. Save-A-Lot prides itself on having smaller stores, fewer frills, and larger aisles so you can get what you need, save money, and get out. The smaller operating costs mean the savings can be passed on to the customer.

Save a Lot - History

Save-A-Lot founder Bill Moran was working for a grocery wholessaler in the 70s when he saw an opportunity for small town grocers to compete with the popular big box stores. He created the Save-A-Lot hard discount model and once implemented in 1977, it shoed immediate success. Due to the success, by 1980, 52 more locations had been added in the United States. Though the company has continued to expand and has changed hands, the values have remained the same. The simple store designs with limited choices and very basic design means savings for customers each and every day.

Save a Lot - Promotions

Save-A-Lot has lower prices on national brands than many other chain supermarkets, but a weekly or monthly circular is provided online for each store. Since stores are individually operated, some ads may vary from store to store. In addition, most stores accept manufacturer or online coupons for items that are also available in stores. Sign up for the Smart Shopper Club to have a circular for your store sent to your mail or email each time they become available.

Save a Lot - News

Save-A-Lot is committed to sustainability through environmentally friendly initiatives that include recycling programs and reduced energy usage in stores. This is accomplished by offering products in one size for efficiency in shipping, arranging distribution centers for shorter hauls, and using energy efficient refrigeration units.Merchandise is placed largely on pallets to reduce the need for extra shelving in stores and recycling is available at all stores. The goal is better prices with less waste in every store.
