Ruler Foods - Store

An American discount warehouse-style grocery store chain, Ruler Foods is headquartered in Seymour, Indiana. The store model moves along the lines of Aldi, where customers bag their own groceries and use 25 cents to borrow a cart for shopping, although the fee is returned when the cart is returned to the corral. Unlike its larger cousins such as Kroger Marketplace, Ruler Foods strictly offers grocery items with no frills like pharmacies or fuel centers.

Ruler Foods - History

Beginning in 1998, Ruler Foods was started by JayC Foods as a discount brand of grocery stores. The following year, Kroger purchased the stores and by 20123 had increased the Ruler Foods brand to 13 stores. The store brand now operates at least 50 stores in the midwestern states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri, and usually in towns where Kroger does not have an existing store.

Ruler Foods - Promotions

Ruler Foods runs a weekly ad to provide customers with the best deals on low-priced items. Examples of weekly specials have included Grade A Large eggs at 78 cents for a dozen, one pound of butter for $1.99, or ground beef for $2.99 per pound. Because of its regular, everyday low prices, Ruler Foods keeps things simple, so customers don’t need a rewards card, an app, or any other way to get savings.

Ruler Foods - News

Earlier in 2021, Ruler Foods made the news when a Kentucky man won a shopping spree that took place in Ruler Foods in the town of Henderson. The man won the contest through a radio show and the rule was that he had 105 seconds to gill a cart full of as many items as possible, up to $500. His winnings were awarded as a gift card.

Ruler Foods - More Information

When Ruler Foods customers requested an easier way to shop for healthier foods, parent company Kroger brought around its Simple Truth and Simple Truth Organic labels. These labels offer simplified lists of ingredients and clean packaging.
