Redner’s Markets is a privately and locally-owned American supermarket chain based in Reading, Pennsylvania. In addition to having all the typical grocery departments, they have a catering and party area with a wide selection of deli trays, prepared foods, and appetizers. Redner’s strive to offer the freshest food at the lowest possible prices.
Mary and Earl Redner combined their savings accounts and founded Redner's Markets in March 1970, opening two IGA franchise supermarkets in Reading, Pennsylvania. In 1975, the Redners formed an Employee Stock Ownership Plan to share the company’s success with their employees. It was the first employee-owned supermarket in Pennsylvania. In 1979, they went independent and renamed their stores ‘Redner’s Markets,’ leaving the IGA franchise behind. In 1987, they converted all the supermarkets into warehouses. Today, Redner’s has over $700 million in annual sales, more than 60 stores, and around 4,500 employees.
