Their corporate headquarters are in Exeter Township, Pennsylvania, near the city of Reading, and most of their stores are in Pennsylvania. Boscov’s generates nearly $900 billion in annual sales, has around 10,000 employees, and owns 74 companies.
Bosov’s origins trace back to 1914 when Solomon Boscov, an immigrant to the U.S. from Russia, purchased eight dollars worth of goods, put them in a backpack, and started walking the Pennsylvania countryside selling them. His business blossomed and he opened his first store in 1918 in Reading, Pennsylvania. In 1954, Solomon’s son and son-in-law joined the company, and their marketing efforts led to more sales and expansion starting in 1962. Today, the chairman is Jim Boscov, the grandson of Solomon Boscov, and Boscov’s has stores in eight states along the East Coast.
