What is the meaning of Black Friday?
Black Friday is an unofficial holiday in the United States that is related to the financial year, particularly in the world of retail sales. Always falling on the day after Thanksgiving, it is often considered the kickoff for Christmas shopping and has often been considered the biggest shopping day of the year.
In years past when all businesses were closed on Thanksgiving, it was a particularly important day for retail stores. It is called Black Friday because, for many businesses, it has been the day that the retail business moves its budget from “in the red” to “in the black”. Many people love to shop on Black Friday and most companies still offer tons of deals, discounts and sales to their customers as incentives to shop on this day.
When is Black Friday?
Black Friday falls only once a year on the day after Thanksgiving.
How is Black Friday Celebrated?
Black Friday is not really celebrated in any way other than simply by retail and online companies who hold various sales, including early-bird sales and other deals. Early-bird specials, Buy One Get One free or half-price, and Gift With Purchase are all examples of deals for Black Friday.
Which Stores Have Black Friday Sales?
Almost all stores thorughout the United States hold some sort of discount, deal, sale or incentive for Black Friday. These might be as small as 10-20% off for small boutique shops, or it could be something as large as 75% off at large chain and department stores.
Clothing stores such as Old Navy, Kohl’s, Urban Outfitters and Lululemon offer significant deals for Black Friday, in addition to department stores such as Target, Macy’s, Walmart and Saks Fifth Avenue. Electronics and home goods stores are known for their Black Friday discounts, including Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe’s and, of course, online shops like Amazon and Wayfair can get you some amazing deals as well.
