Lunardi's Market is just that – a market, not a supermarket. A family-owned chain, they cater to upscale customers with the best cheese and wine selections in the San Francisco Bay area. At Lunardi's, you will find everything from staples like gouda, Havarti, cabernets, and roses to rare, hard-to-find cheeses and wine vintages. And they stock the freshest fresh meats and seafood, too. In fact, Lunardi's buys their distinguished fish from old-fashioned hook-and-line fishers who deliver higher quality. And Lunardi's also provides the finest service. Founder Alfredo Lunardi once said, "The key to our success is good people, and we have the best in the business."
Our founder, Alfredo Lunardi was born in Lucca, Italy. In 1950, at the age of 20, he came to the United States and settled in San Francisco. In 1953, Alfredo acquired a local San Francisco market called "Mother's Market," at 23rd and Irving Street. From that simple beginning, Alfredo and his sons Ralph and Paul opened eight locations in the Bay area.
You can view Lunardi's weekly ad on their website. They offer a 5% discount on in-store shopping for senior citizens (age 65+) on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In January 2019, Lunardi's Markets once again adopted an anti-theft backpack policy. Under the policy, employees are instructed to ask customers with backpacks to put them in the front of the store near the checkout line or the exit.
Lunardi's is a culinary mainstay in its local communities, but it's also a pillar of support for people in need. They raise money through fundraising for local nonprofit organizations. For one such organization, The Multiple Sclerosis Center at UCSF, Lunardi contributes throughout the year via Lunardi's Coins for the Cure; to donate to the cause, customers put their change in the clearly-marked cans near cash registers.
