Carrs-Safeway is an American retail chain of supermarkets located in the state of Alaska. There are now at least 24 stores throughout various cities and towns in Alaska, mostly located in Anchorage. Carrs provides its customers with various family needs such as pantry items, fresh produce, meats, household cleaning products, baked goods, and much more. Services at Carrs stores include pharmacy, grocery delivery, curbside pickup, gift cards, prepaid cards, and much more.
After moving to Anchorage Alaska, Larry Carr decided to open a grocery store with his brother and father in 1950. The name of the first store in Quonset hut was Carrs. A partnership with Bernard Gottstein began in 1960 and a second store was opened in 1966. For some years the name changed to Carrs Quality Centers, and several stores were opened throughout south-central Alaska as the area grew over the next decade. 1999 saw Safeway acquire the company but retained the use of the Carrs portion of the name, due to a significant amount of customer loyalty.
