An American retail supermarket chain located in the Omaha, Nebraska area, Baker’s Supermarkets offers fresh produce, meat & seafood, pantry items, beer & wine, cleaning supplies, health & beauty and more. The store also features gifts, small appliances, toys, electronics, and household goods. In addition, Baker’s stores may provide various services and convenience items such as online deli and bakery ordering, ATM, financial services, pharmacy, fuel stations, delivery and other services.
Baker’s Supermarkets got its start in the small town of Walnut, Iowa in 1927 when Abe Baker opened a little grocery store. It took 30 years, but it grew into a chain when three more Baker’s stores were opened around Omaha. It remained a family business until 1992 when it was sold to a wholesaler and then, eventually, bought by Kroger. Through some acquisitions, Baker’s now runs at least 10 branded supermarkets within the Omaha metro area.
Each week brings a new Baker’s ad that supplies plenty of opportunities for customers to save. Examples of deals may include peppers for 99 cents each, turkey for 49 cents per pound, Buy 1 Get 1 Free on qualifying donuts and snack cakes or 20% off any six bottles of wine. Other discounts can be found through digital coupons. Baker’s provides a Fuel Points program, allowing 1 point for every dollar spent on purchases and 2 points for every dollar spent on gift cards.
In keeping up with the latest trends, Baker’s has added technology so that their customers can scan their own groceries as they go, bag them when they finish, pay and then go. This is all without the need to wait in line for the next cashier. The system uses the Scan, Bag, Go App, creating a personalized shopping experience for everyone.
One way Baker’s seeks to make the world a better place is by offering a Community Rewards program that allows members to choose a local participating organization. The organization, school, or charity then receives financial donations amounting a percentage of what their loyal customers spend.
