Belk is an American retail department store chain that has been a mainstay of the southeastern United States for more than 100 years. A second store opened in 1893, the company continued to grow and was passed down through generations of Belk family members. Belk now operates almost 300 stores in the southeastern United States.

Along with many retailers affected by the Covid pandemic, Belk needed to file for Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy earlier in 2021 to get through the slump. What was remarkable about the situation is that the plan was approved so quickly it came out just a day later and, so far, the company hasn’t needed to liquidate any assets or close any stores.
Giving back to the community is important to Belk. A supporter of local schools, Belk chose September 2021 to celebrate educators in the surrounding area and donated $25,000 to a foundation dedicated to supporting educators and children in the local schools.
