Cardenas Markets - Store

Cardenas is an American chain of supermarkets that specialize in Latin American foods. Their website and weekly ad are published in both Spanish and English, offering a wide array of produce, meat & seafood, dairy, deli items, baked goods, groceries and even fresh tortillas onsite. Cárdenas also offer fresh meals from their kitchen, such as tacos, carnitas, and grilled or fried chicken. With the logo, “Always Fresh, Always Authentic”, the supermarket not only offers in-store shopping but also online shopping with grocery and meal delivery options.

Cardenas Markets - History

In 1981, Jesús Cárdenas, a farmworker from Jalisco, Mexico, opened the first Cardenas grocery store in Ontario, California. With a nod to their heritage, Cárdenas and his wife Luz chose to stock their stores with products that specialized in Latin American cuisine. The company began to grow in 1998 when Cardenas opened locations in Arizona and Nevada. The chain has grown to include 49 stores in the three states but is no longer owned by the Cárdenas family.

Cardenas Markets - Promotions

Like many grocery and food shops, discounts at Cardenas change regularly with the weekly ad. Promotions may include deals on fruit, vegetables, and other produce, grocery items such as sugar and flour, or fresh food specials like Queso Fresco or Jumbo Shrimp. Customers can also get special promos on items such as Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes. Cardenas weekly ads may also include coupons for money off, such as 50 cents off of cornflour or $1 off of coffee.

Cardenas Markets - News

Earlier in the year, the Cardenas Market Foundation established a fund of ¼ million dollars to help families who were affected by the CoVid-19 pandemic. As local food banks were running low on resources, Cardenas stepped up and offered large financial donations to four different food banks in areas where they have stores.

Cardenas Markets - More Information

With a commitment to education, Cardenas Market Foundation has been helping its community since 2005. They offer scholarship programs for a variety of degrees, where 50% of the students applying for the scholarships identified as Hispanic--an especially important factor for a Latin American food chain located in the southwestern states.
