Smith’s Food and Drug - Store

Smith’s Food and Drug, typically known as Smith’s, is a supermarket chain that is a subsidiary of Kroger Corporation. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah in the United States, there are 142 stores in a total of seven states. These states include Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Montan, Idaho, and Wyoming.

Smith’s Food and Drug - History

Smith’s began in 1911 when Lorenzo Smith decided to open a dry goods store. Eleven years later, he moved the store across the street to a larger building and renamed it Smith & Son’s Market. When Smith’s son joined the business after serving in WWII, he immediately began expanding it. Growth increased from 1946 onward and in 1952 it was once again renamed to Smith’s Super Market. In 1998, due to acquisition, Smith’s became a subsidiary of Kroger, allowing Kroger to regain its spot over the competition of Albertson.

Smith’s Food and Drug - Promotions

Smith’s offers weekly flyers that can be found in-store or easily accessed online to find sales good for one week or while supplies last, whichever comes first. The in-store rewards card helps you to earn more discounts and digital coupons that are loaded directly to the card through the app or online through the Smith’s site. Save through personalized coupons, earn fuel rewards, and much more.

As a subsidiary of Kroger Corporation, Smith’s is committed to zero hunger and zero waste by 2025. This initiative means that stores are trying to reduce their carbon footprint significantly, stock more sustainable food options, and limit distribution travel to better the environment.
