Quality Food Centers (QFC) is an American supermarket chain and a subsidiary of Kroger based in Bellevue, Washington. The full-service grocery stores have a deli, bakery, produce, meat and seafood, dairy, wine and beer, floral departments, and more. Some locations have cafes that serve up Seattle's Best Coffee, Cinnabon, and other goodies, and many stores offer catering, movie rental, in-store banking, floral departments, and film development.
In 1960, two Seattle, Washington grocery stores owned by Vern Fortin and Jack Croco merged, and in 1963, they renamed the store QFC. Over the years, QFC expanded aggressively through acquisitions for the next few decades, starting in 1974. They entered surrounding counties between 1990 and 1996, acquiring 30 stores from 11 different independent grocery chains. They also expanded into Portland, Oregon, and Southern California in the 1990s. In late 1997, Fred Meyer bought QFC, and a year and a half later, Kroger acquired Fred Meyer and QFC. Today, as a division under Kroger, QFC operates around 53 stores in Seattle and another nine in Portland, Oregon, and the Puget Sound region of Washington.
QFC offers promo codes, such as their 2021 Thanksgiving discount of $10 off a $20 purchase. They offer coupons on items from all departments, including fuel rewards points coupons, and you can digitally clip and save deals you want by visiting their site and signing into your QFC account. They offer online shopping and fast delivery in as little as an hour through their grocery delivery partner, Instacart.
In February 2021, Kroger revealed that it planned to close two Seattle QFC stores, citing soaring operating costs due to a municipal ordinance that mandates an extra $4 per hour in hazard pay for frontline grocery store workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. QFC described the two stores as "underperforming" and "long struggling."
The Kroger Family of Companies is committed to serving their local communities. One of the many charitable causes they are committed to is supporting needy military personnel and their families. The company has a decades-long relationship with the USO, fundraises for veterans in stores, and hires veterans and active-duty military and their families.
