Crate & Barrel is an American retail store specializing in lifestyle brand, upmarket, high-quality goods for the home. They pride themselves on unique, timeless designs in furniture, tableware, bedding, bath items, outdoor products, lighting, rugs and more. Crate & Barrel designs are inspired by global artisans and curated to bring exclusive products to their customers. Their products lines are often collaborations with famous designers and brands within the industry, such as Leanne Ford, Shinola Detroit, Jane Goodall and Caraway Cookware.
Founded in 1962 by Gordon and Carole Segal, Crate and Barrel was inspired by the couple’s European honeymoon. Their desire was to bring the beautiful and practical housewares they had seen in Europe to the American market. In their first store, located in an old elevator factor in Chicago, they actually used crates and barrels as display fixtures. They now have more than 90 stores in North America, plus 15 international franchise locations.
