An American retail supermarket chain located in the Omaha, Nebraska area, Baker’s Supermarkets offers fresh produce, meat & seafood, pantry items, beer & wine, cleaning supplies, health & beauty and more. The store also features gifts, small appliances, toys, electronics, and household goods. In addition, Baker’s stores may provide various services and convenience items such as online deli and bakery ordering, ATM, financial services, pharmacy, fuel stations, delivery and other services.
Baker’s Supermarkets got its start in the small town of Walnut, Iowa in 1927 when Abe Baker opened a little grocery store. It took 30 years, but it grew into a chain when three more Baker’s stores were opened around Omaha. It remained a family business until 1992 when it was sold to a wholesaler and then, eventually, bought by Kroger. Through some acquisitions, Baker’s now runs at least 10 branded supermarkets within the Omaha metro area.
