About Father’s Day
Father’s Day is simply a day to show honor, affection and appreciation for men who are fathers. For more than 100 years, it has been a way for children and spouses of fathers to thank them for what they mean to their families. Although it was first started in the US state of Washington in 1910, it wasn’t until 1972 that Father’s Day became a nationwide American holiday.

Father’s Day occurs every year on the third Sunday in June.
How is Father’s Day Celebrated?
Because it is summertime in the United States, it is often associated with outdoor activities with Dad. These might include backyard barbecues, picnics or cookouts, and they may also involve sporting activities such as attending a baseball game, playing backyard football or watching a game on television. Children might shower their dads with cards, gifts, or a package of their favorite candies. Those with dads who live far away might mail a card or simply call them on the day to wish them a Happy Father’s Day.

Father’s Day Sales often happen at stores that cater to things dads might want to have as gifts for Father’s Day. This might include clothing stores, such as JCPenny, Old Navy, Kohl’s, Nordstrom, Macy’s or Banana Republic. Father’s Day sales can also be big at sporting goods stores from where dads might receive gifts, like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy Sports and Outdoors or Milled. Lowe’s, Home Depot and Best Buy are other stores that often have big sales on things that dads want, including barbecue grills, outdoor equipment, tools, computer, televisions, appliances, video games and so much more.
