An American retail chain of grocery stores, Pete’s Fresh Market is a family-owned business that operates in the Chicago, Illinois area. Pete’s offers high-quality, fresh products while their fruits & vegetables continue to be hand-picked and delivered each day. Pete’s also carries grocery products, pantry items, dairy, imports, international specialty foods, organic products, liquor, and more. In addition, Pete’s Fresh Market offers in-house butchers, full-service kitchens, delicatessens, juice bars, and in-store bakeries.
Beginning in the 1970s as a small produce stand on Chicago’s south side, Pete’s Market was started by three Greek immigrant brothers, the Dremonas. Their first grocery store was opened and then several other small locations followed, mostly in Chicago neighborhoods that catered predominantly to Black and Latino people. By 1994, the grocery stores had turned into Pete’s Market, which has become one of the city of Chicago’s beloved grocery store chains. Pete’s now runs more than 20 stores and continues to be a family-owned business as they all aim to keep the feeling of a neighborhood store.
Pete’s Fresh Market offers weekly ads for discounts and savings every day, and customers can subscribe to receive emails the weekly circular in their email inboxes. Working toward more sustainable earth, Pete’s customers who bring their own reusable grocery bags will save 5 cents on their purchase.
Pete’s Fresh Market continues to grow as it adds new locations. Mid-2021 brought the announcement that another new Pete’s Fresh Market has been approved. Construction will begin on Pete’s in Tinley Park, aiming to finish by the end of 2022 and creating approximately 200 jobs. This edition also includes repurposing an old Kmart building into a warehouse and distribution center.
Not letting go of its international roots, Pete's Fresh Market shows it by some of the unique and interesting products they sell. Whether it's fresh-made Baba ghanoush from the deli, South Asian Atta flour in the pantry, Italian Pizzelles in the bakery, or Latin American Chayote in the produce section, Pete’s offers a wide selection of international foods that makes shopping here an even better experience.
