Key Food Stores Co-op, Inc. is a cooperative of independent grocery stores headquartered in Matawan, New Jersey. The stores are full-service supermarkets with deli, floral, international, household, meat and seafood, pantry, personal care, pets, produce, and more. Since its start in 1937, Keys' mission has been to provide customers with the finest products at the most reasonable prices.
Key Food Stores was established in Brooklyn, New York, in 1937 as a cooperative of independent supermarkets. In November 2015, the company purchased 23 stores from A&P, a bankrupt grocery store chain, increasing its stores to 212 and making it the largest grocer in New York City. Today, Key Food has stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida. The cooperative also operates stores under the Key Food Marketplace, Key Fresh & Natural, Food Dynasty, Urban Market, Food World, Food Universe Marketplace, SuperFresh, and The Food Emporium banners.
Key Foods recently launched its online pickup and delivery services in a handful of select stores. You can shop online on their website and have them delivered by Keys or their delivery partner Instacart or arrange for curbside pickup at their stores. You can view their weekly ad and digitally clip their coupons by signing into your store account and saving them so that you can redeem them in stores with your card.
In October 2020, Key Foods came to a primary grocery wholesale agreement with United Natural Foods, Inc. Under the agreement, UNFI will supply Key with conventional, natural, and organic grocery products, along with a range of international items.
The company partners with nonprofits to raise money for those in need in its local communities. In 2021 they sponsored Captain Planet Foundation's (CPF) Project Learning Garden Program, which provides schools and educators with materials and support to create an immersive outdoor learning space to engage students' curiosity.
