An American retail chain of specialty drug stores, Discount Drug Mart operates more than 70 stores in northeast Ohio. The stores sell a wide variety of products including health & beauty, food, auto supplies, beer & wine, hardware, games & toys, pet supplies, and even fishing and hunting licenses. Discount Drug Mart stores pharmacies in their stores, offer health care screenings, provide photo services and allow for online ordering with curbside pickup.
Founded in 1969 in Elyria, Ohio, Discount Drug Mart was started by a pharmacist named Parviz Boodjeh. The first store was one that filled prescriptions and sold items such as toiletries, gifts, and some groceries. As the chain grew, the product offerings increased, specifically to items customers wouldn’t find in other stores. The company stayed in the family and is now run by the founder’s children, with more throughout the region each year.
Deals and offers at Discount Drug Mart change regularly with weekly ads and sales. Customers who enroll with the Courtesy Plus Card can earn points and loyalty credits and various purchases in the store, redeemable for gift cards, tickets, or VIP experiences. One example of promos includes the Premier Beauty Club where customers who purchase $25 of branded beauty products receive a $5 Discount Drug Mart gift card instantly at the checkout.
Discount Drug Mart continues to grow its family of stores by acquiring and renovating other stores, and by purchasing land to build new stores. The most recent of these was earlier in 2021 when Discount Drug Mart won a bid for an old elementary school property in Parma that will be built into a 28,000 square foot building with a drive-through pharmacy.
Joining in on community events is one of the ways Discount Drug Mart likes to help its neighbors. In certain counties, stores participate in events that help customers safely dispose of unwanted prescription drugs or other medications that need proper disposal care.
