The name Halloween comes from “All Hallows’ Eve”, and it is situated on the night before All Souls Day, which is on November 1. The day originates from ancient Celtic festivals and Gaelic traditions when people would celebrate the harvest as well as honoring the souls of dead people, often lighting bonfires and wearing scary costumes to ward off ghosts. Today, Halloween has evolved into a fun holiday often celebrated with family festivities.

Halloween incorporates many family activities, such as carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, wearing costumes, bobbing for apples, hosting parties, telling ghost stories, taking hay rides, and having a bonfire. Black and orange are often considered the best colors to wear and decorate with in honor of Halloween.

Plus, Halloween costumes for children and adults may be placed on a discount right around the time of the holiday at stores such as Walmart, Target, and Party City. Grocery and other food stores may offer sale prices on candy and other treats that are purchased specifically for Halloween, such as candy corn, or individually wrapped candies that can be passed out to children who are trick-or-treating.
