Sears is an American retail department store that sells products for the whole family, including lines of clothing, appliances, jewelry, mattresses, lawn care, electronics, toys, home goods, and more. The company has a long reputation for affordability and particularly features its own reputable brands that include Kenmore appliances, Diehard batteries, and Craftsman tools. Sears also offers home services such as repairs, home improvement, warranties, appliance maintenance, and more.
One of the oldest continuously running retail companies in America, Sears’ roots go back to 1886 as a mail-order watch company in Minneapolis. Relocating to Chicago a year later, Sears paired up with watch repairman Roebuck and their mail-order company sold watches and jewelry. Expanding their line, the first store opened in 1925. At its peak in the 1970s, Sears operated more than 3000 stores, but it has sadly declined in the last few decades and is now down to less than twenty.
