Country Mart is a full-service grocery store chain based in Abilene, Kansas. It’s one of the few stores left in the U.S. that bag and carry out groceries. Bill West opened his first grocery store in Abilene, Kansas in 1968, then his second in the same town in 1972. In 1993 he purchased the current Country Mart store and later closed his first two Abilene grocery stores, combining his local business into one Country Mart store. Today, there are three generations of West’s working in the Country Mart – Bill, his son Steve and Steve’s son Chris. The Wests own three Country Mart locations, two in Kansas and one in Missouri.
