Dell

Dell is an American technology and computer company that develops a variety of products that they sell, repair and support with their services. The company sells a wide range of products in their online shop and through third-party retailers, including personal computers, software, data storage devices, cameras, printers, HDTVs, as well as other electronics and accessories. Dell also runs training and certification programs, cloud solutions, Unified Workspace solutions products, and access to Hands-On Labs.

Founded in 1984, Dell was started by Michael Dell, originally under the name PC’s Limited. He was a student at the University of Texas and therefore the company’s headquarters was in his dorm room where he sold IBM-compatible computers that he built personally. Michael Dell designed his own computer in 1985 and the company managed to gross more than $73 million that year. The name changed in 1987 and the company has been growing ever since.

Dell runs a variety of promotions throughout the seasons of the year. Their website lists current sales, which may range from saving $300 on a laptop computer to buying a gaming PC for more than 30% off the regular retail price. In addition, they offer special deals that qualify for Next Day Delivery.

In 2021, Dell announced that it would be selling off Boomi, its SaaS (software-as-a-service) cloud platform. Boomi was acquired by Dell in 2010 but is now being sold to focus on other areas. The sale is set to take place by the end of the calendar year and will go for $4 million

Although Dell had originally tried to follow in the footsteps of Apple by opening onsite retail stores beginning in 2002, its customers simply didn’t engage with the idea. Even though 140 kiosks were placed in the popular Best Buy stores, it was not effective. In 2008, Dell Direct Stores were all closed.
